The Team

Computer Security and Privacy

Our research group focuses on developing new technical solutions with a primary emphasis on empowering users to control their privacy. The human factor plays a central role in this endeavor.
Therefore, in collaboration with our partners, we will leverage our expertise in privacy to create a comprehensive solution that addresses various dimensions of privacy.

For instance, we will investigate which interactions are necessary for each participant to empower them with more control over their informational self-determination. Based on this investigation, novel user-friendly interfaces will be developed and prototypically implemented in collaboration with chilli mind GmbH. These interfaces aim to provide more transparency about data processing practices, ultimately enabling participants to make informed decisions and thus control over their privacy.

The resulting prototypes of these interfaces will be implemented and integrated into a joint demonstrator. Finally, we will evaluate the effects of these developed solutions, particularly on the trust and privacy concerns of the participants.

Interactive Systems

The Interactive Systems (ISY) research group at the University of Duisburg-Essen addresses various aspects of human-robot interaction. This includes inquiries into how robots are perceived in human-robot interactions, human trust in robots, and the role of anthropomorphism in robots.

Within the project, ISY is responsible for the methodology and implementation of continuous participation of all relevant stakeholders, for user-centered and user-friendly design of solutions for physical and social privacy, as well as for testing and evaluating robots in educational settings.

Humanoid Robotics Lab

The Humanoid Robotics Lab at the University of Bonn develops control programs for mobile robots so that they can adapt their behavior to their environment and the people within it, and plan ahead.

Within the framework of PRIVATAR, leveraging our expertise in mobile robotics, user-friendly robot navigation, and predicting human behavior, we aim to provide data-efficient robot navigation functions. These functions allow sensors to be turned on and off according to user preferences.

chilli mind GmbH

chilli mind is a digital design agency based in the heart of Germany. With expertise that has been growing since 2001 across over 15 industries and earning more than 50 international design and innovation awards, we support our partners with our specialized knowledge. Our focus lies in requirement analysis and developing user-centered design for prototypes.
